About the Owners
Store-owner Julie A. Douglass received her doctorate in social anthropology in 2003 from the University of California, Davis. Her research and teaching about the world’s peoples and cultures made her a strong advocate of the fair-trade concept. Through Artisans Fairtrade she intends to make a difference in the lives of Third-World artisans, while assisting them to sustain their fragile (often rainforest) environments. Julie’s academic interests have been reinforced recently by extensive travel. During the past two years, accompanied by her fellow-anthropologist husband, Bill, Julie has visited England, Scotland, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar, South Africa and Botswana, China and Mongolia, Canada, Egypt, and Jordan.
